Pescara is one of the most populous municipalities on the sea of Abruzzo. Its history and its relationship with Gabriele D`Annunzio make it an important historical and cultural center.

Church of the sacred heart

It is a church in neo-Romanesque style, clad in exposed brick and a large rose window in the central door decorated with colored stones. On the sides of the door there are instead windows in Ghotic style.

The Basilica of the Madonna of the Seven Sorrows

It is a sanctuary named after the sorrowful Madonna beacause, according to Christian tradition, she suffered seven pains. The basilica is a religious, historical, artistic and cultural reference point for the city of Pescara as well as for the whole region. There is a fusion between two architectural styles, neoclassical and baroque.

Birthplace Museum of Gabriele d'Annunzio

Gabriele was born in this house, and after his studies he sometimes returned to visit his mother. In 1927 it was declared a National Museum. On the first floor there are five rooms that recall the Ottocentsca atmosphere with the furnishings, the furnishings, the paintings of the time: a treasure chest of memories and experiences of the Poet's childhood. The rooms are decorated with tempera images in the vaults and reproduce neoclassical themes with candelabra vegetable motifs, figures of cupids and fantastic animals. In the second room we see the poet's wardrobe as a red coat and golden sandals. In the other rooms there are the editions of his works.

Renaissance square

It is the heart of the historic center of Pescara. It is perhaps the best starting point to discover Pescara and its major attractions, but it is also a great place to stop for a break, eat ice cream or sip coffee.

Trabocchi

Old wooden buildings similar to piles, built to fish in the open sea without having to resort to using boats. Once upon a time the families of the poorest fishermen in the area lived there. Cited by the poet Gabriele d'Annunzio in some of his letters and in a novel, the trabocchi have also been immortalized in photographs and films of the early twentieth century and are now a tourist destination.

D'Annunzio pinewood

It is known as the "Pineta D'Avalos" or "Parco D'Avalos", which is the name of the family who, at the time of the Bourbons, owned the marquisate of Pescara. The flora present in the reserve is typical of the Mediterranean maquis. In the reserve, there is an auditorium and the open-air theater "G.d'Annunzio", also important is the presence of a small lake.
